Library Services Coordinator

Mitchell Shire Council has embarked on Victoria’s last great story of growth.

Located just 40 minutes from Melbourne where the city meets the country, we’re renowned for our scenic beauty that’s rich in both history and heritage. We’re home to a mix of beautiful natural landscapes, townships and emerging communities in some of Australia’s fastest-growing suburbs.

Come join a Local Government Organisation offering a fantastic opportunity for Community, Opportunity and Growth for the right applicant.

This is your opportunity to join a supportive organisation in an area with rapid population growth. In 2025 Mitchell Shire is home to 64,175 residents; it is forecast to grow to 221,636 by 2046.

About the opportunity

Bring libraries to life. Turn spaces into places people belong.

Mitchell Shire is entering a defining chapter. 40km north of Melbourne, our Shire spans Beveridge, Wallan, Kilmore, Broadford and Seymour. We’re a key growth corridor, balancing rapid residential expansion with the country character and community values that make Mitchell, Mitchell. With strong growth ahead, every one of our 40+ townships has a role to play.

We’re setting the organisation up for what’s next. A refreshed structure, clearer accountability and faster decisions. This role – Library Services Coordinator – sits at the heart of our new Community Activation portfolio, making sure our libraries are welcoming, well used and ready for the future.

About the role

Reporting to the Manager, Community Activation, you’ll coordinate a modern, multi-site library service across branches, mobile and outreach services.

Your focus is simple: make it easier for people to read, learn, connect and take part in community life.

You’ll deliver:

  • Day-to-day operations that are safe, welcoming and reliably staffed across all library locations.
  • Strong, current and inclusive physical and digital collections, supported by effective use of library management systems and technology.
  • High-quality customer service at sites that also operate as Council customer service locations.
  • Programs and events across life stages that drive participation, support lifelong learning and reflect local needs and Council priorities.
  • Digital inclusion initiatives that build confidence with devices, online services and e-resources.
  • Child safe, culturally safe and inclusive practice in spaces, collections and programs, including First Nations truth-telling and multilingual offerings.
  • Practical implementation of Council and Community Activation strategies through clear service plans, branch priorities and agreed service standards.
  • Use of data, insights and community feedback to refine services, programs, opening hours and spaces.
  • Well-maintained facilities, equipment and systems, with up-to-date procedures, risk controls and compliance with legislation and Council policies.
  • Productive partnerships with schools, TAFEs, neighbourhood houses, community groups and local services that strengthen participation and outcomes.

You’ll be part of a collaborative leadership group within Community Activation, working closely with colleagues in Customer Experience, Leisure and Community Development to deliver joined-up services, outreach and events across the Shire.

This role is a permanent full time opportunity with a Monthly ADO. The total remuneration package on offer for this opportunity begins at $102.7K (Band 7) plus superannuation.

About you

Calm, organised and community minded, you enjoy turning strategy into practical services that work on the ground. You’re as comfortable on the floor in a busy branch as you are planning rosters, collections and programs.

You bring:

  • Tertiary qualifications in library and information management or a related discipline, with eligibility for professional membership of ALIA, and substantial experience in public libraries.
  • Demonstrated experience leading multi-site or multidisciplinary teams, including supervision, coaching and performance development.
  • A proven track record in planning and delivering inclusive, community-centred library programs and services that lift participation and engagement.
  • Strong skills in managing library operations, collections, systems and budgets, using data and evidence to inform decisions and improvements.
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with community members, partners and internal stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated commitment to child safe, culturally safe and inclusive practice, and the ability to embed these principles in staff practice, programs and spaces.
  • High-level digital literacy, including library management systems, e-resources, emerging technologies and Microsoft 365.
  • An understanding of local government and the role of libraries in supporting Community Activation, health and wellbeing and growth objectives.
  • A current Victorian driver licence, and a willingness to undergo a National Police Check and hold a Working with Children Check.
