Senior Team Leader (Aquatic Operations)

Be part of Victoria's last great story of growth

Mitchell Shire is where the city meets the country. Located just 40 minutes north of Melbourne, we're home to thriving townships, beautiful natural landscapes and some of Australia's fastest-growing communities.

With a current population of more than 64,000 residents and forecast growth to over 220,000 by 2046, there has never been a more exciting time to join Mitchell Shire Council. As we continue to grow, so do the opportunities to make a genuine difference to our community and help shape the future of one of Victoria's most dynamic municipalities.

At Mitchell Shire Council, you'll be part of a progressive, inclusive and supportive organisation that values collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement. Together, we work as One Mitchell, guided by our values of Trusted, Engaged and Innovative.

About the Opportunity

As Senior Team Leader – Aquatic Operations, you'll provide leadership across aquatic operations, learn to swim services, aquatic programs and workforce development within Mitchell Leisure Services. You'll be responsible for ensuring our aquatic services are safe, compliant, financially sustainable and responsive to community need — while driving participation growth, continuous improvement and positive customer experiences across all facilities.

As a member of the Leisure Services Leadership Team, you'll contribute to strategic planning, operational excellence, workforce capability and service innovation, helping deliver high-quality leisure services that promote community health, wellbeing and participation.

Day to day, you'll lead specialist service areas including pool plant operations, lifeguarding services, duty management and facility maintenance, oversee Mitchell Leisure Services' Life Saving Victoria Third Party Provider training program, and lead, develop and support a skilled, customer-focused aquatics and learn to swim team. You'll also assist the Leisure Services Coordinator with reporting, business planning and budget management, and build strong relationships with schools, swimming clubs, community organisations and industry partners.

If you enjoy leading high-performing teams, solving complex operational problems, and playing a genuine role in community health and wellbeing, this is a great opportunity to make your mark.

This is a temporary, full-time opportunity with a Monthly ADO. Remuneration begins at $105K to $117K (Band 7) plus superannuation.

Why Mitchell?

At Mitchell Shire Council, we are committed to creating a workplace where people can thrive and do their best work. In return for your contribution, you'll enjoy:

  • Flexible work arrangements where operationally possible
  • Learning and development opportunities
  • Employee wellbeing initiatives and Employee Assistance Program support
  • A values-driven and supportive workplace culture
  • The opportunity to contribute to one of Victoria's fastest-growing municipalities
  • Meaningful work that makes a difference to our community

About You

We're looking for someone who is passionate about delivering great outcomes and enjoys working collaboratively with others.

You're a confident, hands on aquatics leader who can balance the operational realities of running aquatic environments and programs with the bigger picture thinking needed to grow participation and keep services financially sustainable. You know how to lead a team through the pressures of a busy leisure environment coordinating rostering, compliance, customer service and safety, without losing sight of the community outcomes that make the work worthwhile.

You'll bring:

  • Solid experience leading teams in an aquatic, leisure or recreation setting, with a good handle on pool plant, lifeguarding and duty management operations
  • A track record of managing programs (learn to swim, training, or similar) from planning through to delivery and evaluation
  • Confidence with budgets, workforce planning and using data to identify where things can improve
  • Strong communication and stakeholder skills — you build trust easily with staff, community groups and industry partners alike
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in recreation, leisure management, sport management, business or a related field, or equivalent experience that speaks for itself

You'll also need to hold:

  • Current Pool Lifeguard Qualification, First Aid Certificate and CPR Certificate
  • Current Working with Children Check
  • Current Victorian Driver Licence

This role also offers real scope for growth as part of the Leisure Services Leadership Team, you'll have exposure to strategic planning, business case development and organisation wide projects, opening pathways for you to build your career within Council.
