Plant Operator Leading Hand
Be part of Victoria's last great story of growth
Mitchell Shire is where the city meets the country. Located just 40 minutes north of Melbourne, we're home to thriving townships, beautiful natural landscapes and some of Australia's fastest-growing communities.
With a current population of more than 64,000 residents and forecast growth to over 220,000 by 2046, there has never been a more exciting time to join Mitchell Shire Council. As we continue to grow, so do the opportunities to make a genuine difference to our community and help shape the future of one of Victoria's most dynamic municipalities.
At Mitchell Shire Council, you'll be part of a progressive, inclusive and supportive organisation that values collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement. Together, we work as One Mitchell, guided by our values of Trusted, Engaged and Innovative.
About the Opportunity
This role offers great balance of hands-on operational work and leadership responsibilities. You'll provide guidance and support to other operators, assist with the planning and delivery of road maintenance programs, and contribute to a positive and motivated team environment. You'll also work collaboratively with internal stakeholders and interact with members of the community while delivering essential infrastructure services.
If you enjoy working outdoors, operating a variety of heavy machinery, sharing your knowledge with others, and seeing tangible results from your work each day, you'll find this a rewarding opportunity. You'll be part of a team that takes pride in delivering safe, reliable and well-maintained road infrastructure for Mitchell Shire residents.
Remuneration begins at $78K to $81K (Band 4) plus superannuation.
Why Mitchell?
At Mitchell Shire Council, we are committed to creating a workplace where people can thrive and do their best work. In return for your contribution, you'll enjoy:
- Flexible work arrangements where operationally possible
- Learning and development opportunities
- Employee wellbeing initiatives and Employee Assistance Program support
- A values-driven and supportive workplace culture
- The opportunity to contribute to one of Victoria's fastest-growing municipalities
- Meaningful work that makes a difference to our community
About You
We're looking for someone who is passionate about delivering great outcomes for the community, takes pride in their work, and enjoys working collaboratively as part of a team.
You will bring experience operating a range of heavy plant and equipment within a road maintenance, civil construction or infrastructure environment. You'll have strong practical problem-solving abilities, a commitment to workplace safety, and the confidence to provide direction and support to team members when required. Experience coordinating small works programs, estimating resources, and maintaining accurate records will be highly regarded.
To be successful in this role, you will hold a current driver's licence and have experience and/or certification in operating machinery such as rigid trucks, backhoes/loaders and excavators. Additional plant operating licences and relevant industry training will be advantageous.
