Patching Truck Leading Hand

Be part of Victoria's last great story of growth

Mitchell Shire is where the city meets the country. Located just 40 minutes north of Melbourne, we're home to thriving townships, beautiful natural landscapes and some of Australia's fastest-growing communities.

With a current population of more than 64,000 residents and forecast growth to over 220,000 by 2046, there has never been a more exciting time to join Mitchell Shire Council. As we continue to grow, so do the opportunities to make a genuine difference to our community and help shape the future of one of Victoria's most dynamic municipalities.

At Mitchell Shire Council, you'll be part of a progressive, inclusive and supportive organisation that values collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement. Together, we work as One Mitchell, guided by our values of Trusted, Engaged and Innovative.

About the Opportunity

As a Patching Truck Leading Hand, you'll play a key role in maintaining and improving Mitchell Shire's road network, helping to keep our communities connected, safe and accessible. Working within the Roads Maintenance team, you'll combine hands-on plant operation with leadership responsibilities to deliver high-quality road maintenance outcomes across the municipality.

This is a varied and rewarding role where you'll see the direct impact of your work on the community.
A typical day might see you operating Council's specialised road patching truck, coordinating maintenance activities, planning resources and materials, undertaking plant inspections, and supporting other team members to complete works safely and efficiently. You'll work closely with the Roads Maintenance Team Leader while providing on-site leadership, direction and training to operators and crew members.

This is a permanent, full-time opportunity working a 4 day week.

Remuneration begins at $78K to $81K (Band 4) plus superannuation.

Why Mitchell?

At Mitchell Shire Council, we are committed to creating a workplace where people can thrive and do their best work. In return for your contribution, you'll enjoy:

  • A 4 day work week (Tues - Friday each week)
  • Learning and development opportunities
  • Employee wellbeing initiatives and Employee Assistance Program support
  • A values-driven and supportive workplace culture
  • The opportunity to contribute to one of Victoria's fastest-growing municipalities
  • Meaningful work that makes a difference to our community

About You

We're looking for someone who is passionate about delivering great outcomes and enjoys working collaboratively with others.

You will bring practical experience in road maintenance and the operation of heavy plant and equipment, particularly within sealed road maintenance, road patching or civil construction environments. You are confident working independently, planning and prioritising tasks, and leading small teams to achieve safe and efficient outcomes.

To succeed in this role, you'll hold a current Victorian HR Driver Licence and have demonstrated experience operating road maintenance plant and equipment. Experience coaching or training others, preparing resource estimates and maintaining accurate operational records will be highly regarded. Additional plant licences and relevant industry qualifications are advantageous.
