Information Services Officer

(Band 5 - Part-time, temporary)

Be part of Victoria's last great story of growth

Mitchell Shire is where the city meets the country. Located just 40 minutes north of Melbourne, we're home to thriving townships, beautiful natural landscapes and some of Australia's fastest-growing communities.

With a current population of more than 64,000 residents and forecast growth to over 220,000 by 2046, there has never been a more exciting time to join Mitchell Shire Council. As we continue to grow, so do the opportunities to make a genuine difference to our community and help shape the future of one of Victoria's most dynamic municipalities.

At Mitchell Shire Council, you'll be part of a progressive, inclusive and supportive organisation that values collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement. Together, we work as One Mitchell, guided by our values of Trusted, Engaged and Innovative.

About the Opportunity

This is your opportunity to join Mitchell Shire Council as an Information Services Officer in a temporary, part-time role (3 days per week for 6 months). Working within the Customer Experience team, you will play an important role in supporting how Council manages its information—helping ensure records are accurate, accessible and compliant to support better outcomes for both the organisation and the community.

In this role, no two days are the same. A typical day might see you processing incoming correspondence, maintaining records in the electronic document management system, responding to staff queries, and helping locate critical information when it’s needed. You’ll also support training for staff, assist with system improvements, and contribute to projects that strengthen how Council manages its information.

Key to your success will be your ability to:

  • Support the day-to-day operations of the Information Services Unit
  • Ensure records are captured, stored and managed in line with legislative and Council requirements
  • Provide helpful, responsive support and advice to staff across Council
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance systems and processes
  • Assist with reporting, projects and Freedom of Information requests

You’ll be part of a collaborative and supportive team that values accuracy, service and continuous improvement. The work is rewarding because of the impact it has — ensuring the right information is available at the right time helps Council deliver services to the community efficiently, transparently and responsibly.

This is a great opportunity for someone looking to further develop their experience in records and information management, gain exposure across Council, and contribute to meaningful improvements within a flexible part-time arrangement.

This is a temporary, part-time 45 hours per fortnight (3 days per week) opportunity.

Remuneration begins at $46.5K to $53K (Band 5) plus superannuation.

Why Mitchell?

At Mitchell Shire Council, we are committed to creating a workplace where people can thrive and do their best work. In return for your contribution, you'll enjoy:

  • Flexible work arrangements where operationally possible
  • Learning and development opportunities
  • Employee wellbeing initiatives and Employee Assistance Program support
  • A values-driven and supportive workplace culture
  • The opportunity to contribute to one of Victoria's fastest-growing municipalities
  • Meaningful work that makes a difference to our community

About You

We’re looking for someone who is organised, customer-focused and enjoys working in a collaborative environment where your work makes a real difference.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Experience in records or information management, ideally within an electronic document management environment
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage large volumes of information accurately
  • Sound communication skills, with the confidence to support and guide colleagues across the organisation
  • Solid computer skills and the ability to learn new systems quickly
  • A good understanding of, or interest in, local government and its role in the community

You will also hold a relevant qualification or have equivalent practical experience, along with a current driver’s licence. Experience working with records management legislation or disposal schedules will be highly regarded.

This part-time role (3 days per week) is well suited to someone who can manage their time effectively, prioritise competing tasks and work both independently and as part of a team.

Just as important are your personal attributes. You are someone who:

  • Takes pride in delivering high-quality, reliable work
  • Maintains confidentiality and acts with integrity
  • Works well as part of a team and builds positive relationships
  • Is proactive and enjoys improving processes and finding better ways of working
  • Brings a positive, can-do attitude aligned with Council’s values of being Trusted, Engaged and Innovative

In return, you’ll have the opportunity to grow your skills in information management, gain exposure across different areas of Council, and contribute to meaningful improvements that support service delivery to the community.
