Development Surveillance Officer
Be part of Victoria's last great story of growth
Mitchell Shire is where the city meets the country. Located just 40 minutes north of Melbourne, we're home to thriving townships, beautiful natural landscapes and some of Australia's fastest-growing communities.
With a current population of more than 64,000 residents and forecast growth to over 220,000 by 2046, there has never been a more exciting time to join Mitchell Shire Council. As we continue to grow, so do the opportunities to make a genuine difference to our community and help shape the future of one of Victoria's most dynamic municipalities.
At Mitchell Shire Council, you'll be part of a progressive, inclusive and supportive organisation that values collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement. Together, we work as One Mitchell, guided by our values of Trusted, Engaged and Innovative.
About the Opportunity
Do you enjoy being out on site rather than behind a desk? Are you passionate about quality infrastructure and making sure developments are built to the right standard?
As a Development Surveillance Officer, you'll play a key role in ensuring roads, drainage and civil infrastructure delivered through new developments meet Council's standards and are ready to serve our growing community.
No two days are the same. One day you might be inspecting subdivision works, reviewing engineering plans and completing construction hold-point inspections. The next, you'll be working alongside developers, contractors, engineers and service authorities to resolve technical issues and ensure projects continue to progress safely and efficiently.
You'll be part of a collaborative and experienced team that values practical problem solving, continuous improvement and delivering infrastructure our community can rely on for years to come.
This is a permanent full-time opportunity with a Fortnightly RDO.
Remuneration begins at $78.5K to $89.5K per annum (Band 5) outdoor allowance plus superannuation and commuter use vehicle.
Why Mitchell?
At Mitchell Shire Council, we are committed to creating a workplace where people can thrive and do their best work. In return for your contribution, you'll enjoy:
- Fortnightly RDO
- Flexible work arrangements where operationally possible
- Learning and development opportunities
- Employee wellbeing initiatives and Employee Assistance Program support
- A values-driven and supportive workplace culture
- The opportunity to contribute to one of Victoria's fastest-growing municipalities
- Meaningful work that makes a real difference to our community
About You
We're looking for someone who enjoys working outdoors, has a strong understanding of civil construction and takes pride in delivering quality outcomes.
You'll bring experience interpreting engineering drawings and specifications, undertaking site inspections and working collaboratively with contractors, developers and internal stakeholders. You'll be confident communicating technical information, identifying construction issues and working with others to achieve practical solutions.
To be successful, you'll also have:
- Experience in civil construction, road or drainage infrastructure, subdivision works or a related field
- The ability to interpret engineering plans, standards and specifications
- Strong written communication skills, including inspection reporting and record keeping
- A collaborative approach and excellent customer service skills
- A commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement
- A Certificate III in Civil Construction (or equivalent experience)
- A current Victorian HR Driver Licence and the ability to obtain and maintain a Working with Children Check
Whether you're already working in development surveillance, civil construction or infrastructure delivery and are looking for your next challenge, we'd love to hear from you. Please indicate in your application if you wish to be considered for the temp or permanent position.
